How long does a diesel injector clean take?

Do you need to remove the injectors?

No. We clean them on the car with an IDT 4000 (MotorVac DieselTune 4000). It connects to the fuel rail while the engine runs, so no injectors come out and nothing is pulled apart.

Why is my diesel blowing black smoke?

Black smoke means unburnt fuel in the exhaust — usually dirty or worn injectors spraying unevenly, a clogged air filter, or a restricted EGR valve. The free scan shows which one it is before any work starts. If it’s the fuel side, this clean deals with it. If it’s carbon in the EGR or intake, that’s an EGR clean or a Full Engine Carbon Clean.

What causes loss of power in a diesel engine?

Dirty injectors are one common cause, along with a blocked DPF, a carbon-choked EGR valve or intake, or a boost problem. Deposits on the injector nozzles spoil the spray pattern, so fuel doesn’t burn fully and you lose power while using more fuel. The free scan shows which it is before any work starts.

Will diesel injector cleaning help my DPF?

It can, when the injectors are the cause. Injectors that spray unevenly leave fuel unburnt, and that makes extra soot for the DPF to trap. Cleaner spray means less soot going in. If your DPF light is already on, that’s a DPF clean — the scan tells us which job you need.

Does diesel injector cleaning improve performance?

It can, when the injectors are what’s holding the engine back: lost power, rough running or smoke from uneven spray. It cleans the fuel side — injectors, pump and rail. What are diesel injectors?

Modern diesel engines use a high-pressure common-rail injection system. Fuel is sprayed through microscopic injector nozzles at up to 30,000 psi — every time the engine fires. Over tens of thousands of kilometres, carbon deposits and fuel varnish build up on those nozzles, inside the injection pump, and throughout the fuel rail.

When spray patterns degrade, combustion becomes incomplete. You lose power, burn more fuel, and produce more exhaust smoke. Left untreated, dirty injectors accelerate wear on your fuel pump, turbo and DPF.
