Isuzu builds one thing in Australia and builds it for work: the 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel in the D-Max and MU-X. It is a durable engine, and almost everything we see on it comes down to how these vehicles get used rather than how they were built — short runs between sites, idling on the job, towing at the weekend, and not much sustained highway driving in between.
That pattern is hard on a diesel. The particulate filter needs heat and time to clear itself, the EGR circuit recirculates soot back into the intake, and both get worse together. Below is what we see most on Isuzu engines, what causes it, and which clean fixes it.
