Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury division, and which carbon problems you can have depends entirely on when your car was built.
If you bought new recently, the range is petrol and electric — the G70, G80, GV70 and GV80 run turbocharged direct-injection petrol engines and the GV60 is fully electric. On those cars, intake valve carbon is the issue, not the exhaust.
If you have a 2020–2024 diesel, it is a different story. Genesis sold the GV80 with a 2.2-litre four and a 3.0-litre inline-six diesel, and the GV70 and G80 with the 2.2. Those cars have a particulate filter and an EGR circuit, and they are now at the age and kilometres where both start to matter. Diesel was dropped from the Australian range by 2024, so if you own one there is no newer equivalent — it just needs looking after.
